Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is a négociant?
A négociant is a wine merchant who sources wine (or grapes) from growers or producers, and then sells it under their own label or connects it with buyers. At Agajanian, we act as bulk wine négociants, helping clients find the right lots for their needs — whether it’s topping off a blend, meeting production demands, or launching a new label. We don’t produce wine ourselves; instead, we facilitate smart, strategic sourcing from trusted suppliers across California.
How many samples should I send to market bulk wines?
Please send 6 samples to our Napa office, along with the composition and technical breakdown for each wine. We have a temperature-controlled sample room at our Napa location to ensure proper storage upon arrival.
Can Agajanian help me finalize bulk wine blends or provide in-person tastings?
Absolutely. We have a full-time winemaker at our Napa office who can assist with blending and host in-person tastings.
Can Agajanian provide basic lab analysis on wines?
Yes. Our lab is equipped with an OenoFoss machine, which can provide estimates for alcohol %, pH, TA (Titratable Acidity), VA (Volatile Acidity), MA (Malic Acid), RS (Residual Sugar), and more.
Do you have a public tasting room?
We do not have a public tasting room. However, we offer wholesale tastings for commercial clients.
Do you handle shipping?
No, all wines are sold FOB (Free On Board) from the winery. Our clients manage their own logistics, which helps streamline the transportation process and gives them more control. However, in many instances involving winegrapes, we do help facilitate the harvest and transport to ensure a smooth and timely delivery.
What commission does Agajanian earn?
We are predominantly winegrape merchants and bulk wine negociants (what we agreed on is what you pay—no more, no less.) In addition, we broker deals for our clients and in these cases, Agajanian takes a 5% minimum commission.
